Ochota Barrels / One Eight Six 2021

オーストラリアのナチュラルワインムーヴメントにおける伝説的な人物、故タラス・オコタが2008年に設立したオコタ・バレルは、アデレード・ヒルのバスケット・レンジで、ワインの愛好家に探し求められ続ける小規模で多様なワインを造り続けています。

 

オコタ・バレルのワインに使われるブドウは、アデレード・ヒル、マクラーレン・ヴェイル、バロッサ・ヴァレーといったオーガニック、ビオディナミ、サスティナブルなワイン造りが広く実践されている産地から採られています。ワイン造りのアプローチはシンプルで、介入を最小限にし、昔ながらのバスケットプレスの方法で、ブドウのなすがままをワインに表現しています。濾過や清澄も行わず、亜硫酸の使用も避けています。

 
複雑、活力にあふれ、確固たるスタイルがあり、アルコールも控えめなワインは素晴らしいピュアさが感じられ、カルトワインとしての地位を得ています。悲しいことにタラス・オコタは2020年に亡くなってしまいましたが、彼のヴィジョンは確かに彼の妻でワインメーカーであるアンバーに引き継がれています。

 

Established in 2008 by the late, legendary Taras Ochota, a pioneer of Australia’s natural wine movement, Ochota Barrels is a producer of highly sought after small-batch, holistic wines located in the Basket Range subregion of South Australia’s Adelaide Hills.

 
Fruit for Ochota Barrels is sourced from a selection of exceptional vineyard sites in the Adelaide Hills, Mclaren Vale and the Barossa Valley where organic, biodynamic, and sustainable viticulture is practiced. The approach to winemaking is simple. Loose and naturally funky, the wines are crafted with minimal intervention using an old-fashioned basket press. They are fermented in neutral barrels and no fining or filtration is done. Sulphur is avoided.

 
Complex, energetic, consistent, and moderate in alcohol, the wines show great purity and have attained cult status. Tragically, Taras passed away in 2020, but his vision lives on under the precise hand of his wife and fellow winemaker, Amber.
