Kilikanoon’s flagship Clare Valley wine, the Oracle, was mostly sourced from the dry grown Mort’s Block vineyard located is in the Leasingham district of the valley. Traditional methods of vinification were used throughout the winemaking process, fermentation taking place in small open vats and gently processed through a basket press. The wine is matured in 240 liter French oak hoghead barrels for 24 months before careful blending and bottling. It is an intense crimson red with youthful purple hues. Aromas of lifted sweet plum and berry fruits with hints of coffee, chocolate, and spicy French oak. The palate is richly textured and flavored with the natural acidity and subtle oak characters providing length and complexity.

醸造責任者のケヴィン・ミッチェルは、クロノドルフ、オーランド、BRLハーディダーレンベルグ、キングストン・エスート、ケンダル・ジャクソンなど数々の国内外のワイナリーで醸造の経験を積み、キリカヌーンとして2種類のワインを1998年に初リリース。ミッチェル家は元々クレアヴァレーで30年以上栽培家として活躍してきましたが、ケヴィンがスキロガリー・ヴァレーにあるキリカヌーンと呼ばれれていた設備を購入し、その名が与えられました。シラーズやリースリング、カベルネなど主なブドウは25年前にクレアヴァレーのリーシングハム地区にあるモーツ・ブロックとブロック・ロードの区画に植えられており、高い樹齢を誇ります。
Killikanoon has established itself as one of the real superstars of the Clare Valley. Owner and head of winemaking, Kevin Mitchell has had winemaking experience in many international and domestic wineries ranging from Krondorf, d’Arenberg, Kingston Estate, and Orlando to BRL Hardy, Kendal Jackson and Willamette Valley (USA). In 1998 he released the first 2 wines under the Kilikanoon name.
The Mitchell family has been growing grapes in the Clare Valley for more than 30 years and in 1997 Kevin purchased the facility known as Kilikanoon. The main grape varieties, Shiraz, Riesling, and Cabernet were planted on Mort’s Block and Block Road vineyards in the Leasingham area of Clare Valley 25 years ago giving them some of the oldest vines in the region.
