This Pinot Noir is from a mix of modern hillside clones and older Valley floor clones from the vineyard. The grapes are fermented in traditional open tanks and then aged in older French oak barrels for 18 months. This Pinot Noir is ruby-colored with aromas of ripe red and black fruits infused with violets and an underlying earthy character. Richly flavored with dense red and black fruits, the palate shows a combination of excellent tannin structure, well-integrated oak, and a rounded, lingering earthy finish.
Varietal: 100% Pinot Noir

Dog Point Vineyard combines the considerable experience of James Healy and Ivan Sutherland founders of the iconic Cloudy Bay where they worked as winemaker and vineyard manager respectively. The name Dog Point dates from the earliest European settlement of Marlborough and the introduction of sheep to the district. Shepherds' dogs sometimes became lost or wandered off and eventually bred into a marauding pack, which attacked local flocks.
After moving on from Cloudy Bay, Ivan and James started to work with their own Dog Point Rd vineyard where the vines, still partly leased by Cloudy Bay, date back to the 1970s, (making them some of the regions oldest plantings). The first Dog Point Vineyard vintage was in 2002, and in a few short years Dog Point's limited production was selling out quickly and effortlessly.
The philosophy of Dog Point Vineyard is a simple one with James and Ivan totally involved in all aspects of the vineyard through to the winemaking process to marketing regionally distinctive and vineyard expressive wines.
